You may be concerned about drinking in secret, broken promises, conflict at home, or returning to alcohol after a period of recovery. You do not need to settle on a label before asking about RU. Call the team to explain what brings you here and learn what a first meeting involves.
RU Director Corbett Stone is also an associate pastor at Florence Baptist Temple. He can answer questions about the program and arrange biblical counseling at no cost. A friend or family member can contact the team with you.
What alcohol recovery support looks like at RU
The Friday meeting combines prayer and voluntary stories of progress, small-group conversation, and Bible teaching. You can listen on your first visit without being expected to tell your story. Small groups offer a place to discuss the week with others working toward change.
A personal mentor offers accountability and encouragement between meetings. The RU curriculum includes daily Bible study, journaling, and practical challenges that give you a structure to work through over time. This is a Christian community program; its counseling is biblical support.
Attend a free recovery meeting
Meet at Florence Baptist Temple, 2308 South Irby Street, Florence, SC 29505. The main program begins Friday at 7:00 PM, and the Sunday recovery class starts at 9:15 AM. No signup, insurance, or referral is required.
Friday doors open at 6:45 PM. Use the entrance closest to Jordan’s Furniture Store and follow the RU signs. A volunteer will explain where to go. Dress casually; a Bible and notebook can be useful, but you can simply bring yourself.
Support when someone you love is struggling with addiction
Partners, parents, and friends can ask for help too. You are welcome to attend with a loved one or contact the team yourself, even if that person is not ready to come. Biblical counseling gives you a place to discuss concerns and questions about supporting recovery.
Nursery care and programs for children and teens are available at no cost while adults attend. Let a volunteer help your family find the right rooms when you arrive.

Questions about getting started
Is RU the same as Alcoholics Anonymous?
No. RU is Reformers Unanimous, a Christian recovery program with its own Bible-based curriculum, meetings, and personal mentoring. Alcoholics Anonymous is a separate fellowship.
Does RU provide alcohol detox or residential rehab?
RU does not provide medical detox or residential treatment. If you are concerned about withdrawal or your health, speak with a qualified healthcare professional about appropriate care.
Can I come back if I’m struggling with addiction again?
You are always welcome back at RU. A setback does not mean you have to face recovery alone. Join us at a meeting or contact the team to reconnect with support and encouragement. If you need medical or clinical care, a healthcare professional can help you explore your options.
