A life that looked perfect
Steve grew up in a Christian family, attended church, and went to Christian school. Yet within two years of high school he was addicted to cocaine and alcohol. Addiction took his confidence, his direction, and eventually his financial stability.
A wake-up call
At age 28, Steve nearly died in a drunk-driving accident. While recovering in the hospital, a former Sunday School teacher brought him a Bible and asked him to begin with the book of John. The words of John 8:32 — “the truth shall make you free” — changed the direction of his life.
Recovery rooted in relationship
Steve returned to church, trusted Christ, and began learning how to live differently one day at a time. As he studied the Bible, he wrote down the principles that were changing him. A small Bible study grew, and those notes became the foundation of the RU curriculum.
The best I could do for myself was a broken life. God’s love was greater than all my sin. His love alone had the power to free me.
A legacy that continues
Steve continued helping people find freedom and forgiveness in Christ until his death in 2010. The work he began continues through local chapters like RU at Florence Baptist Temple and through the lives of people who now help others with the same hope they received.
